Dr. Lourdes Capistrano-Fellarca, fondly nicknamed Alta, is our featured alumna. She was an active clinical researcher in Pharmaceutical Medicine for 36 years, a field of vital importance in advancing medical science - improving patient care, driving innovation, ensuring drug safety, continuing surveillance of both prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and contributing to a better understanding of diseases and treatments. Prior to entering the field of Pharmaceutical Medicine and working with several international pharmaceutical companies, she was a practicing pediatrician, starting her Pediatric residency at the Phiippine General Hospital after graduating from the UP College of Medicine, completing it in Colorado, then underwent more training in Boston, with affiliation in Tufts University. In an UPMASA (UP Medical Alumni Society in America) tribute to Dr. Felarca in 2022,, she stated “I really enjoy the challenge of formulating a hypothesis, identifying a problem and digging for solutions until I find the answer. It is never straightforward, and each answer garners a new set of questions, and the research process expands and starts all over again. I just love it! Working in a corporate setting and holding my own, alongside American doctors and executives, is one of my proudest professional achievement.” Fully retired in the Big Apple, she remains an active member of the UPMASA NJNYCT Chapter, supporting UPAAA events, enjoying Philippine Consular and varied cultural and musical attractions of her city, and staying in touch with family and friends. |
