UPAAA also raises funds for UP students impacted by typhoons. In 2021, through the UPdanay Donation Dive for Typhoon Odette (Rai), UPAAA raised $1,500 for immediate disaster relief and rehabilitation of damaged homes of UP Visayas constituents. This includes a $500 donation from UPAA Central California led by President Susan Mendiola.

We are your family away from home.

Institutes and programs

"Science should not be so difficult to pursue. It should be an arm’s reach to every child who ever looked at the night sky and dreamed of one-day exploring galaxies. It should not have to be a resilience story of going through mountains and rivers just to receive the education that everyone is entitled to. It should not be a one-in-a-million feat to be standing with us today."

Emmanuel de Leon, Jr., Conductor

Meet one of the recipients of the International Student Assistance Grant (ISAG), donated by Dr. Francisco S. Sy, and administered by UPAAA.

We try to check up on our grantees and find out what obstacles they encounter in their academic journey, and sometimes they tell us about their problems.

"To be honest, I am having a problem sustaining my transportation allowance for my OJT (On the job training).....there is no government compensation for .... interns. I travel everyday via 4 modes of transportation (tricyle, EDSA carousel bus, MRT and jeepney) going to the office, and the same setup when I go back home. This was been my routine for almost a month now. Big percentage of my allowance goes into transportation fare. .. I allot P160 for transportation and P160 for food." ......One of the recipients of a donor-funded grant

So we "pass the hat", usually among members of the UPAAA Board.  Even a little bit helps e.g., $150 will help sustain this grantee through the summer break while he fulfills his OJT.  The money was transferred to him within 24 hours. We wish we had a ready cash fund for situations like this.

His response to the cash transfer:

"I just want to extend my deepest gratitude to you and your families for this midyear term allowance. It will greatly help my problems during my on-the-job training. "
